What is respite care?
Caregivers face many challenges. Caregiving is a demanding task, and it is easy to neglect your own health and well being when you are involved with your loved one's needs. Caregivers need time off from their caregiving responsibilities to relieve stress and prevent burnout. Effective, sustainable caregiving depends on meeting the caregiver's own needs for nurture, reassurance, support and periodic respite.Respite care provides time off for family members who care for someone who is ill, injured or frail. It can take place in the home of the person being cared for, or in a private residential setting such as ours, an assisted living facility or nursing home. Although there are different approaches to respite care, all have the same basic objective; to provide caregivers with planned temporary, intermittent, substitute care, allowing for relief from the daily responsibilities of caring for the care recipient. Respite care is essential for all caregivers.
For a person requiring care, needing to convalesce after a hospital visit or recover from an illness, a break away from home can offer a change in surroundings and the chance to meet new people and do different things.
We cater for:
- babies and children with a disabilities or chronic illnesses
- new Mum's needing assistance after childbirth (e.g after caesarian)
- adults needing to convalesce after surgery or those with chronic illness
- older folk needing assistance with daily living
- Option for partners or family members to stay
Requirements:
- adults and older folk must be continent
- mobile or semi-mobile with walking stick or frame
- we cannot take anyone suffering from dementia or Alzheimer's disease
- non smokers
Objectives of care:

- Registered nurse available on site for cares, wound treatment, and administration of prescribed medications
- provision of balanced, tasty and nutritious meals
- to encourage family members and friends to visit and be a part of care and rehabilitation

We also offer care in your own home if your loved one is happier to stay in their own surroundings.Cost:
Care in clients own home which includes general cares, cleaning, shopping, cooking, supervision and company: $20 to $30 incl GST per hour depending on requirements.Accomodation and care at the Captain's Lodge including meals and laundry service:
$125 incl GST per 24 hr or part of.
Accomodation for partner or family member
$75 incl GST per night.
