Blue Ocean Charters-Ohorere

Ohorere (17 m)

We welcome you onboard OHORERE - one of New Zealand's most practical charter fishing vessels

Built in 1965 as the Ministry of Fisheries' patrol vessel, no expense was spared in her construction of double diagonal planked kauri. She has traveled the length and breadth of the country in pursuit of illegal fishermen and poachers.

In her past life she has also spent a year as the Police Launch in Wellington after the 'Lady Elizabeth' sank.

She has undergone extensive alterations including adding the entire back cabin area, increasing the accomodation areas, adding huge ice and fish storage areas, altering the galley and this last year fully fibreglassing and two pot painting the exterior of the hull.

She is the ultimate in cruising comfort, weighing in at 36 tonnes, she offers a stable fishing platform, full walk around decks, and being powered by twin V12 Mercedes easily takes you to the offshore fishing grounds.

A large volume vessel at 60 ft (17 m), she has accomodation on board for up to 12 passengers plus two crew. There are two showers and toilets and two galley areas. Being so spacious means she is ideal for groups for extended trips.
The interior features lots of polished timber giving her a warm and homely feel.

There is blue rubber matting throughout which protects the carpet so there is no 'shoes off at the door' policy on this vessel, she is a serious fishing boat.
Specialities include day and overnight hapuka safaris, reef fishing, saltwater flyfishing, gamefishing and diving anywhere in the Bay of Plenty, Coromandel, and Great Barrier Island, with departures from Tauranga, Mount Maunganui and Whangamata.

We cater for individuals or small groups on public trips and the vessel is available for private charters. Ohorere is ideal for corporate team building, incentives and rewards, and conference day-escapes. We do lots of Stag Do's and even some Hen Parties.

Two or three day trips are real adventure.
